Hooptober, Night Thirty: I was hoping that this one would do a little bit more to expand on the better points of the first Blacula (i.e. William Marshall's excellent lead performance and improvised African-prince backstory), and to its credit it seems to be trying that with the addition of the voodoo cult (including Pam Grier, the same year she hit it big in "Coffy") and integrating that into the movie's vampire mythos. But ultimately the new characters introduced in this movie start to seem like retreads of the ones from the previous film, with a similar police investigation and romantic arc. I couldn't help but feel like if the filmmakers had taken their time to make another Blacula movie instead of a quick cash-in on the original, this could have been a little bit more.
