2021 Cult Movie Challenge Week 3: '50s Sci-Fi Week Movie #1 I was impressed with how this one kept a lot of the basic contours of Wells's novel while updating it to a specifically 1950s American setting. The special effects are still quite good for the time, and I was honestly amazed at how vividly the movie depicts the destruction wrought by the invaders as well as the food riots. I was expecting something maybe a little more sanitized in the years following WWII, but it makes sense as an expression of people's fears of the time.
