1ST ANNUAL CRITERION CHALLENGE WEEK 21: ROMANCE I don't know if I quite have the vocabulary to describe how this movie felt, but the combination of the bright retina-searing colors along with the piece's extremely dark and adult emotions -- all conveyed through the sung-through dialogue that miraculously never resolves into actual songs (or wastes our time with interminable production numbers), makes this something that I've never quite seen before. I'm really curious to see more Jacques Demy now, and I hope to find time to watch more of his very soon.
