2021 CULT MOVIE CHALLENGE WEEK 22: TAKASHI MIIKE WEEK Although I have never read the original manga or anime on which this is based, the episodic nature of the story combined with the wild costume and makeup designs definitely feels like spending an afternoon plowing through a few hundred pages of a densely-written and illustrated comic. I wonder if it might have been better off as a live-action TV series instead of trying to cram so much into a 2 hour film, because by the end I felt a little worn out even while being mostly entertained by Miike's impressively-directed action scenes.
