1ST ANNUAL CRITERION CHALLENGE WEEK 22: THE 1970s I'm definitely curious to read the original book "Roadside Picnic" now that I've finally crossed Stalker off of my watchlist, just to fully understand Tarkovsky's approach to adapation and understanding exactly how much was "shown" as opposed to "told" in the novel. As it is, Tarkovsky does an amazing job of making his settings -- which I assume were mostly found locations as opposed to constructed sets -- feel like a strange and reality-bending wilderness. I think I'm going to need to see it again perhaps another year or two from now to know how I really feel, but I was very impressed in my first go-round.
