1st Annual Criterion Challenge Week 28: Released on Laserdisc Yeah, it lives up to its reputation, even from a modern perspective that has semi-normalized some (SOME!) of the countercultural aspects. If anything, it kind of led me down a primrose path for a good chunk of its running time, where I thought maybe this was kind of a Rocky Horror/Forbidden Zone midnight movie deal where a lot of the most shocking aspects are things that happen offscreen or are just referenced in dialogue or are just based on blowing up our stuffy heteronormative middle-American morality with queer perspectives. BUT NO.
