a review of 群鸟2：复活

HOOPTOBER OCHO NIGHT FIVE It's genuinely hard to tell whether this is a sincere BadFilm™ or some kind of deadpan anti-comedy goof along the lines of Tim & Eric, and the fact that this is a nearly perfect Xeroxing of the original Birdemic doesn't make it any easier. Reading interviews with director James Nguyen, one thing that sticks out for me is that he speaks in exactly the same way that he writes dialogue for his characters, which tells me that if it's a put-on he's doing an amazingly consistent job of it. His characters' off-putting quirks are his own off-putting quirks: An obsession with pre-1970s classic cinema combined with an inarticulate understanding of the movie business; A wholly consumer-centric concept of environmentalism and global warming; A tendency to talk about women in weird MRAish terms, focusing primarily on how attractive they are and how smart he is for casting them in his movies. The list goes on! There's really nothing to recommend this movie over the first Birdemic, and for that matter there's no real reason to watch that movie either. If you do watch, make sure you're seeing it for free on Tubi or at least buy it from Rifftrax so some actual funny people get a piece of the action.
