HOOPTOBER OCHO NIGHT FOURTEEN: This is kind of a tough one to really rate, because it's almost less of a movie and more of an experimental art piece disguised as a grindhouse feature. It definitely moves at a crawl (at one point, literally so!) but by the end I was all-in on how kooky and dreamlike and specific it was in how it played out. Patton Oswalt has a bit about Death Bed where he jokes about the filmmaker's Quixotic determination to get their vision on screen, but apparently that's how it actually happened. The director had a weird dream encapsulating the plot of the movie, and he spent five years filming it in bits and pieces before it was finally done but couldn't get it released until somebody bootlegged it years later. The fact that it came out the same year as David Lynch's "Eraserhead" (which had a similar origin and lengthy multiyear production) makes me want to watch them as a double feature sometime.
