HOOPTOBER OCHO NIGHT THIRTY-THREE + 2021 CULT MOVIE CHALLENGE WEEK 44: SHOCK THEATER WEEK Kind of amazing that it took until the third Universal Frankenstein to bring in some of the most iconic elements of the franchise. As much as I enjoy the Whale films, I appreciated the somewhat more unified tone of this one, eschewing some of the more tiresome comic relief bits in favor of a more modern sense of atmosphere. I'm very interested in knowing how Bela Lugosi's "Ygor" (a wild horror creation in his own right) got combined with the hunchbacked assistant "Fritz" in the previous movies to become "Igor" in the larger cultural memory -- whether it was a conscious choice by some screenwriter to meld the two characters, or whether it just happened over decades of late-night movie reruns in the minds of a whole generation.
