2021 CULT MOVIE CHALLENGE WEEK 50: TROMA WEEK It barely holds together as a real movie outside of just being loosely connected vignettes of the actors playing the various gang members just shouting at each other interspersed with snoozy surfing b-roll, but I had a fun time with it. It does show how far we've come in our popular conception of neo-Nazis since the late '80s, when they were seen as a ridiculous wacko fringe element instead of as a core animating force behind current conservative politics. Along that same line, the movie isn't especially interested in plumbing the racial implications of the Surf Nazis killing a Black man, aside from as an excuse to do kind of a DEATH WISH riff with his grandmother (played by Gail Neely, who looks like she's having a blast) going on a rampage of bloody vengeance.
