2021 CULT MOVIE CHALLENGE WEEK 52: BAD MOVIE WEEK I've managed to go roughly 20 years without seeing a single frame of this movie other than clips of the genuinely unsettling Turtle Man scene, and now I know why. It's painfully obvious that this was Carvey's attempt at getting his own "Austin Powers"-type franchise vehicle off the ground, assuming that the residual goodwill from the "Wayne's World" movies would work for him in the same way it worked for Mike Myers. (We could probably spend some time unpacking the differences between Myers' and Carvey's appeal as SNL performers; Suffice to say I always found Carvey's comic persona to be a bit less sympathetic and easygoing.) But ultimately the problem with this movie is that it barely has any momentum going from one scene to the next. When I discovered that roughly 10 minutes of the slim 80-minute runtime is literally just deleted scenes that they decided to stick into the end credits, it explained a lot about how the movie came to be.
