HOOPTOBER NINE! NIGHT FOUR! + 2022 CULT MOVIE CHALLENGE WEEK 38: SVENGOOLIE WEEK + PODCAST MACABRE 2022 HORROR CHALLENGE #41: A Hammer Films production Although this adaptation is more or less equally unfaithful to Mary Shelley's text as the Universal/Whale films, I'll admit that I like how this one juices up the drama by adding a love triangle and making Victor even more of an unscrupulous sociopath. By the time he actually creates the monster, he's already got blood on his hands and is perfectly ready to do it again. Lee's portrayal of the creature is perhaps not quite as sympathetic as Karloff's, but he gives the role an impressive physicality, along with a real sense of anger and confusion about the character's situation.
