The Harryhausen effects were old-fashioned even at the time this film was produced, but they work more often than they fail. I don't think anyone watches this for the acting, even with big names all over the place. Burgess Meredith is the only one that really gets to show himself off, the gods and goddesses are stuck bickering in a rather uninteresting fashion. Let's not even talk about the hero, either. But despite it all, they generally keep the action going with some interesting bit of craft every ten minutes just about. The robot owl seems to have been a big hit with the younger audience. Modern-day audiences might be surprised to see as much nudity in a film that was given a PG rating back in its time. Glad to have watched it, once only.
