This film ought to be taught in schools as an example of how to kill an interesting concept as thoroughly as possible. We get to watch the main character we've been told everything depends on pack her luggage, cross the parking lot, check onto a flight, and sit in an aisle seat for much of the film and begin to wonder, "wait a minute, Isn't this supposed to be a far-out science fiction movie?" Then at the end, literally nothing is resolved. I mean, maybe if they took out the outer space parts this could be turned into a sort of interesting domestic drama, but that's not the way it was promoted so an audience is entitled to take the bait and switch badly. Having a few scenes of a heaving rubbery sheet of fungus while a full orchestra plays some tense chords just seems like a lazy way out.
