In my Midsommar review, I recalled turning to my good friend Jesse as the credits rolled to ask "Who hurt him?" (referring to writer/director Ari Aster). With Beau Is Afraid, I think I have an answer. I'm picking up notes of Punch Drunk Love, mom, and I'm Thinking of Ending Things, but all the flavor in this particular blend is a bit off and its length does it no favors. Anyway, happy Mother's Day to all who celebrate.
