There's a matter-of-factness to the way Friedkin directs this story of a cop going so deep undercover that maybe he doesn't ever fully come out from under it that I really enjoyed. I like how Al Pacino learns about the color-coded handkerchiefs one day and then the next time we see him at the club he's got a yellow one in his pocket, as if to suggest that he consciously made the decision that he's a piss guy. And I like to think that him calling himself "party-sized" was improvised, because that was a fun line. I felt bad for Karen Allen (that little cutey!), Paul Sorvino was great, and Joe Spinell was as terrific as ever. An enjoyable watch! Semi-serious side question: Why do leather folks appear to only wear black leather? Why no browns or tans? No suede or nubuck?
