I saw David Cronenberg's The Fly for the first time last year and loved it, The Shrouds in theaters last week and liked it lots, and Scanners for the first time this week and really enjoyed it. I know that I've seen Videodrome, Crash, A History of Violence, and Eastern Promises, but it was years and years (and years) ago for all of them, I don't remember much about any of them, nor do I think I probably fully appreciated them at the time either. All this to say: I think watching Scanners this week after more recently seeing The Shrouds and The Fly has opened up a part of me that's thinking I might be really into Cronenberg and that it's time to revisit those other movies and see the rest for the first time. As for Scanners specifically, I found myself fully invested in the marriage of its techno-pharma-espionage plot with the mysterious and uncanny telekinetic abilities of its main characters to be a really fascinating yarn.
