@BananaSundae I forgot to mention this on Letterboxd, but the "flatness" probably has to due with Lucas' documentarian approach. He has talked extensively about how he prefers documentaries and intentionally tried to make his Star Wars films feel like documentaries, taking a kind of neutral, observationist perspective. I think this is consistent with American Graffiti and THX1138 as well.
