A deluxe edition of St. Vincent will be released on 9 February 2015 in the U.K. with the album being available only for digital download in the U.S. on 10 February. It will feature a previously unreleased track, "Bad Believer," as well as "Del Rio," which was a b-side on the "Digital Witness" single as well as a bonus track on the Japanese edition of St. Vincent, "Digital Witness" (DARKSIDE Remix), previously released as a single, and finally, "Pietà" and "Sparrow", which were originally released together on a limited edition 10" pink vinyl on 28 November 2014 for Record Store Day.

St. Vincent is the moniker of singer/multi-instrumentalist/composer Annie Clark and this is her debut full-length. She's opened for such diverse acts as Television, Jose Gonzalez, and Sufjan Stevens, and she's an inventive and versatile guitarist who has also performed with avant-garde composer Glenn Branca. On this record, she writes cinematic pop epics that feel at times like Paris in the 20s before all the fun ended. Or, conversely, an orchestra of pure modernity - a new American music, informed by jazz, gospel blues, Southern folk music, and classical composition but, in the end, an animal original unto itself. She's been compared to everyone from Bjork to Kate Bush to Jeff Buckley, and her beautiful voice melds perfectly with her intricate guitar work.

Almost two years after the release of Marry Me, St. Vincent, aka Annie Clark, is back with her sophomore album this May: It's called Actor and she co-produced it with the pAper chAse's John Congleton (Modest Mouse, Thermals, Smog, Polyphonic Spree, etc). Clark wrote/arranged the 11 songs and sings, plays guitar, bass, and keys, but brought on some additional players like Hideaki Aomori (Sufjan Stevens), Alex Sopp (Björk, Phillip Glass), and increased the rhythm section with Midlake's McKenzie Smith and Paul Alexander. There's also French horn, violin, sarongi, bass, and percussion. Still, really, she's front and center, which is why the cover art makes sense. It also carries on the tradition of Marry Me and confirms something Amrit said to me earlier today: "She loves closeups of her face." Yes she does. I guess she's assuming you do, too.

The record's 11 tracks showcase Clark's gift for fusing the cerebral and the visceral, her melodically elegant arrangements packing hefty emotional punches. Clark reunited with producer John Congleton and recorded the album in her hometown of Dallas, TX. Strange Mercy finds St. Vincent redefining the idea of the guitar hero, utilizing the instrument as a pointillist artist might wield a brush.

Special guests on the album include Thomas Bartlett on piano, Kamasi Washington on saxophone, Jenny Lewis on vocals, and beat production from Sounwave. Greg Leisz and Rich Hinman add pedal steel, and Tuck and Patti Andress contribute guitar and vocals respectively on select tracks.
