当红舞台剧女星Charlotte（Marlene Dietrich）这日早晨匆匆叩开情人Jonathan（Richard Todd）的房门，神色慌张地相告她刚刚杀了丈夫。Charlotte紧张更因她马上要去剧场演出，身上穿的却是沾有一大块血迹的裙子。Jonathan将Charlotte安抚一番，来到她家帮她取其它衣服，并在要离开之时伪造了现场，但却因此耽搁时间被Charlotte的女仆看见，Jonathan被迫找上爱恋他的Eve（Jane Wyman）。
