A satellite view of the earth is the first camera shot of this film then it plunges down to the island on which Crusoe (O'Toole) is stranded.A quick and direct start to a film. Every now and again I expected John Cleese to be playing a piano on the beach.There is a scene when the two characters are on a podium after racing, it's straight out of Monty Python. There is definitely something about this film even though there are some cringe worthy singing scenes that, I think are a little ludicrous.It delves into religion, class,education, race, the idea of money and the general cultural relativism that exists between the proverbial "savage" and "civilized" man. Although people have said that Crusoe is the fool in this version, I do tend to see some sense in the things he does, like the need for money in order to keep a work ethic and a civilized notion of transaction of possessions.However his religious spin on everything is a little monotonous and self deceiving. He is put into context of his origin when some Brithish missionaries arrive on the island.He is actually not that bad a fellow at all.
Friday (Rountree)is a bit of a hippy in this really and overly idealistic.
Some where in the middle of the two characters is the sort of person you could live on a desert island with!
I thought Crusoe's shooting himself was a wonderfully dark ending.

Heavy Weather was a dramatisation for television by Douglas Livingstone of the novel Heavy Weather by P. G. Wodehouse (1881–1975), set at Blandings Castle. It was made by the BBC and WGBH Boston, first screened by the BBC on Christmas Eve 1995 and shown in the United States on PBS's Masterpiece Theatre on 18 February 1996.
Though abridged for a 90-minute film, Heavy Weather followed closely the novel of 1933, the fourth in the Blandings series. Many of the familiar elements of the Blandings books were present: the wish of Lord Emsworth's nephew, Ronnie Fish, to marry a chorus girl, Sue Brown;[1] the concern of Emsworth's sisters, the imperious Lady Constance Keeble and Ronnie's mother Lady Julia Fish, to ensure that the reminiscences of their other brother, the Hon. In 1966, a famous actor (Peter O'Toole) is taken by a rowboat to a fabulous old hotel on an island in the middle of a lake. He comes to find out that time stands still here -- and the reason is that he is dead. He discovers that all the residents of the hotel are famous but dead people, including Albert Einstein and Ernest Hemingway. It seems that as public interest in a dead celebrity fades away, the celebrity is given smaller and smaller rooms, until finally they are thrown out. When British Capt. Charles Edstaston arrives at the court of Catherine the Great in St. Petersburg, Russia, he is stunned by the palace’s disorderly condition. The severely intoxicated Prince Potemkin concludes that the handsome Edstaston would be a suitable lover for Catherine, and he coerces the bewildered visitor into her bedchamber. Edstaston manages to escape, but he is repeatedly recaptured and delivered to the mischievous Catherine.

A UK-Canada co-production filmed in Canada and West Germany, Power Play includes scenes shot at the University of Toronto's University College quadrangle and hallways. Portions were also filmed at Canadian Forces Base Borden, north of Toronto.
The flag of the film's unnamed republic, "a generic country with no specific geography or culture" was green, yellow and black.
