影片以当代新加坡社会为背景，讲述了一个中学男教师（林友明主演）和一个男学生（由本片导演之一的罗子涵主演）之间的爱情故事和结局。男学生的母亲则是片中的另一个主要角色。影片呈现了三个人之间的人际关系和情感矛盾。爱白网据新加坡媒体报道，《单》片中有对同性爱的大胆呈现。
