刘喜梅1985出生于河南省驻马店市新蔡县，她的降生因违反了国家计划生育政策，迫使送给别人抱养。1995年，十岁的小姑娘喜梅在麦收中因事故受伤，失血过多，在当地医院接受治疗期间，被输入带有HIV病毒血浆感染上了艾滋病。据官方2011年统计，中国有八十五万艾滋病患者，其中大多数是因为90年代地方政府推行的"血浆经济"造成。本片讲述了刘喜梅在2013年间的生活记事。
