此时江阳城内各酿酒作坊之间也正为争夺老窖市场而彼此明争暗斗，互不相让。天一坊乃官办作坊，掌柜的侯境如为人奸诈狡猾，口蜜腹剑，为挤垮自己的竞争对手而不惜使用卑劣手段。他暗中收买古家的瓦片，在投料上做手脚而使得古家的老窖不出酒，从而达到挤垮对手的目的，加上当地的封建势力，军阀官僚相互勾结，勾心斗角，使整个行业的矛盾日趋激化。而此时，日本人也对我国的老窖国宝虎视眈眈，并在江阳境内安插了隐藏很深的心腹，以监视当地酿酒业的动态，从而获得老窖秘方。他们勾结当地的汉奸走狗，伺机破坏，以便待机会成熟后，巧取豪夺，甚至妄图将整个国宝明窖移往东洋。
为了使老窖窖池这一国宝不至沦落日本人之手，为振兴和宏扬老窖这一民族产业，卢运强最终决定舍小家而保大家。他摈弃前嫌，抛开前辈恩怨，与江阳城内的爱国人士并肩作战，同仇敌忾，和当地的恶势力及日本商业间谍展开了殊死斗争，几经生离死别血雨腥风，最终保住了历经三百年的国窖瑰宝，同时也为江阳老窖迎来了到巴拿马国际展览会一显品味的资格并最终获得金牌，载誉归来。
