与温特失去联系的时间里，一名叫帕可的美军上尉走进了瓦莱莉的生活。帕克是空军飞行侦察大队的，被掉到“重锤行动”组后，在和米尔斯少校一起到准将家为闯祸的士兵道歉时认识了瓦莱莉。虽然帕克在美国有妻子儿女，但帕克的英俊和风度给瓦莱莉留下了深刻的印象，并在进一步的交往中，两人的感情迅速升温。
随着与瓦莱莉的感情日渐升温，帕克的任务也在不断的变化。等温特拖着虚弱的身子从前线回来找到瓦莱莉时，帕克因为“重锤行动”解散而被编入第六特种部队，成了温特手下的一名指挥官。温特的归来，让瓦莱莉的内心充满了矛盾，但瓦莱莉毅然决定离开温特，回到帕克的身边……
登陆开始，第六特种部队在温特的指挥下，冒着密集的火力冲上了海滩。激烈的战斗中，帕克和温特先后负伤，但在付出较小的代价后，第六特种部队还是完成了任务，在海面通向悬崖的地方清除出一片安全通道。然而，就当工兵仍在探测地雷时，温特不慎踩响了地雷。看着回到后方医院的帕克，得知温特已经牺牲的消息，瓦莱莉心如刀绞、泪流满面，吻别帕克后，瓦莱莉就再也没有回来。
