背景介绍：

拍摄缘起：
1998至2003年间，该片导演克里斯-佩恩驾驶的正是EV1，车子被通用收回后，他买下丰田公司短暂发售的RAV4 EV，并一直开到现在。汽车问世以来速度最快、效率最高的是电动车，它以电为动力，没有排放，象克里斯这样少数有幸驾驶电动车的人对它一见钟情，不愿再作他想。但是为什么通用汽车公司会在亚利桑那的沙漠中自行销毁了大批库存的EV1电动车呢？这一点引起来本片导演克里斯的疑问。于是有了这部纪录片的诞生。
结合现今汽油的价格不断攀升至每加仑4美元，矿物燃料的日渐短缺，再加上全球石油生产国家的动荡局势，主流消费者们开始更多地把目光投入混合动力汽车(仅今年一年油电混合车Prius就卖出14多万辆)等现状，《谁消灭了电动车》这部纪录片的出现不能不说是极其应景和重要的了。
