在世贸中心的遗址进行空前的重建计划，其中包括四栋摩天大楼、一座交通枢纽、一座博物馆，以及一座史上最大人工瀑布的纪念碑，为空前仅见的工程大挑战。其中，名为「映照故人」的人工瀑布纪念碑将建筑在双塔遗址上，并由建筑师麦可埃拉德建造。埃拉德表示已花了八年时间构思蓝图，希望将遗址改建成一个翠绿之地让人们休憩，悼念过去的同时也展望未来。这座史上最大型人工瀑布也将在2011年9月11日开启，届时水流将从双子星被毁的缺口注入水池，表达出时间的流逝和生命失落的象征，并希望藉由流动的水抚平罹难者家属心中的伤痛。

911事件从2001年事发至今将届满十周年，「打造自由塔挥别911」记录一群建筑工人、规划者与梦想家的勇气、动力与大胆想象，他们内心虽然无比悲痛，但却都有志一同。从痛失兄弟好友的钢架工人，到勇于为纽约市发想全新前景的建筑师，还有寻求心灵慰藉的罹难者家属。
