The stormy tale of the Shinsengumi is told from its birth by master filmmaker Sasaki Yasushi, with an all-star cast based on the original story by Shirai Kyoji. The battles between the royalists and Shogunate supporters come to a fever pitch during the Gion Festival as the exclusionists plot to burn Kyoto and kidnap the Emperor. From its earliest beginnings as a group of ronin brought from Edo to protect the Shogun when he is in Kyoto to see His Imperial Highness, the group had to face difficulties both from within and without. Commander Serizawa Kamo's corrupt practices threaten the group's very existence, as they try to recover from the bad reputation he left them with. Their redemption comes when they learn of Katsura Kogoro plans to gather men at Kyoto's Ikedaya Inn for his attack on the city. Along with Hijikata Toshizo and Okita Soji, Kondo leads the group in an attempt to save Japan from the rebels.

Five swordsmen are murdered and hung from a tree and the chase is on to find the killers. Two magistrates pursue the leads to solve the crime and it leads to a potential conspiracy to kill the Shogun.

One-eyed master of martial arts, Yagyu Jubei visits Akizuki Village and meets with his former teacher Akizuki Hayato-no-Kami. Jubei is shocked to see Hayato's sickly appearance. An evil gang has plotted to murder Hayato, but a deadly Yagyu blade will unleash a rain of blood and disperse the evil plot! The breathtaking climax in a huge ravine called Okamidani is the ultimiate pay-off. Jubei confronts several hundred riflemen and warriors in a bloody battle to the death.

NHK大河ドラマ第32作。
炎立（ほむらたつ）是高桥克彦描写前九年之役到奥州藤原氏灭亡的历史小说，后来在1993年时以本书为一二部的原作，由NHK改拍成大河剧。
1993年7月4日到1994年3月13日之间播出的第32部NHK大河剧，由三部构成。描写平安时代前期的朝廷与东北地方到镰仓时代源赖朝在奥州合战灭奥州藤原氏的故事，其中渡边谦、佐藤庆等人都饰演两个角色。
在片头部份，第一部与第二部是岩手县江刺市的传统艺能“鹿踊”的舞姿，第三部是平泉的中尊寺金色堂枫叶飞舞的场面。
虽然收视率并没有大幅的增加，但是在评价方面颇高。

1572年，武田家的几名忍者为了保武田家去谋刺信长

小説家の朝比奈耕作(小泉孝太郎)は、自身の著書「雉啼島(きじなきじま)の惨劇」のドラマ化のオファーを受けるために、担当編集者の高林智里(南沢奈央)と共にテレビ局を訪れる。
そこで、ドラマの撮影中に毒殺された俳優の事件を追っていた刑事の中沢(阿南健治)と偶然出会い、“鳥啼村(とりなきむら)見聞録”と書かれたノートを渡される。毒殺された被害者の俳優が持っていたもので20年前に亡くなっている民俗学者の耕作の父・耕之介(佐戸井けん太)が書いたものだった。
さらに、ドラマ撮影のロケ地が鳥啼島ということから、耕作は不気味な偶然に興味を惹かれる。父・耕之介と古くから付き合いがある心理学者の尾車(里見浩太朗)に鳥啼村のことを尋ねると、尾車は言いづらそうに耕之介が最も恐れていた村と伝える。耕作は父が何を恐れていたのか確かめるべく、ドラマプロデューサーの柿沼(デビット伊東)、脚本家の窪田(阪田マサノブ)、主演を務める俳優の結城翼(上遠野太洸)、結城のマネージャーで鳥啼村出身の鳥神翔子(雛形あきこ)と共に撮影の下見で鳥啼島を訪れる。

将軍の弟にあたる館林藩藩主松平齊厚の短気から、忍藩の主阿部正由が殺された。忍藩次席家老榊原帯刀は訴状を老中水野越前守に届け出た。しかし、齊厚の暴虐と知りつつも、水野は忍藩の非とした。このままでは、藩は取潰しにされると、帯刀は仙石隼人に齊厚暗殺を命じた。隼人は同志９人と共に江戸に向い、暗殺計画を綿密に練った。一方、館林藩の知恵家老秋吉刑部は、忍藩の暗殺隊を予知し、吉原に入りびたりの齊厚に警護をつけ、逆に隼人らを救うが、浪人井戸大四郎に妨げられてしまった。

大江戸捜査網は1970年（杉良太郎作品）から始まり、1991年（橋爪淳作品）で終了するまでの間約21年間も続いた超長寿番組です。 将軍家斉、老中松平定信を時代背景とし悪に挑戦する「隠密廻り同心」の話である。
隠密廻り同心は、町方同心の手の及ばない大きなスケールの事件を扱い、身を挺して死地におもむき七変化する忍び術にも、剣の道に練達し殺されても振り返る者もない影の者たちである。
