酒肉和尚道济于灵隐寺看守大悲楼，大师兄素与道济不睦，火烧大悲楼，陷害道济失职，住持遣道济下山化缘赎罪，重建大悲楼。道济化缘方法奇特，行为似癫非癫，亦庄亦谐，且酒肉不戒，以身上泥垢给乡民治病，药到病除，论捉鬼除妖，更是手到拿来，仿如再生活佛，又行事不拘一格，不会墨守成规，遂令得乡民诚心信服。县夫人恃势凌人，欺压乡民,乡民苦不堪言，道济略施小法惩戒县夫人，县夫人老羞成怒，拘捕道济；全乡村民齐集县衙，要求释放道济，县夫人犹未觉悟，下令酷刑对待道济，乡民唯转往灵隐寺，祈求上苍保佑道济无恙。道济对县夫人再施惩戒，县夫人始改过行善，答允重建大悲楼，道济谢过乡民，重投灵隐寺。
