秉持「当代人写当代史」的职志，由谢东山主编、五位国立台南艺术学院艺术史与艺术评论研究所学生共同执笔的《台湾当代艺术1980-2000》一书，近日由艺术家出版社发行出版。
本书以一九八○至二○○○年为时间脉络，分七个章节介绍（一）地景艺术、光与空间艺术、身体艺术、行为艺术；（二）新达达、贫穷艺术、装置艺术；（三）新表现主义、涂鸦、新意象艺术；（四）写实主义、后现代主义、新古典主义；（五）解构艺术；（六）原住民艺术；（七）女性主义艺术等，共七大类型、十六项小类别、二百馀位台湾艺术家的创作风貌。每一章节先以该类型的欧美当代艺术做参照，之后锁定同质性的台湾艺术家进行观照。以历史文献与档桉做骨架，艺术工作者的自我陈述做精髓的书写方式，使本书的诠释兼具主、客观性。而在作品图版方面，超过两百张的图片，五位作者亦花了不少时间搜寻、整理，以呈现艺术家最具代表性的作品。
此外，因应「全球化」的趋势，台湾艺术自是不能缺席于国际艺术交流之中。本书以中、英文对照的方式编排，不仅是台湾艺术与国际艺术接轨的具体展现，亦是祈使本书可以做为国外艺术界认识台湾当代艺术的指南。
