《八重之樱》讲述了会津藩的炮术师傅山本谦八和佐久夫妻之女新岛八重一生87年间发生的事。新岛八重（绫濑遥 饰）出生于会津藩士家中，在戊辰战争中和五百名女子一起固守会津的鹤城，到明治年间嫁给襄，作为基督教传教士传道，积极从事教育活动，是个顽固的女人，在那个男尊女卑的时代称得上是女中豪杰，被称为是幕末时代的贞德。之后，在侵华战争、日俄战争中，八重又和会津的伙伴一起作为日本第一批护士共赴战场，因此又获得“日本的南丁格尔”这一美名。

When a massive, gilled monster emerges from the deep and tears through the city, the government scrambles to save its citizens. A rag-tag team of volunteers cuts through a web of red tape to uncover the monster's weakness and its mysterious ties to a foreign superpower. But time is not on their side - the greatest catastrophe to ever befall the world is about to evolve right before their very eyes.

本剧讲述的是原预备校的英语讲师古泷一路和现在无职业、过着俭朴生活的哥哥古泷一路，以及突然搬进哥哥家的弟弟二路（泷藤饰）之间的故事。对2人开始的“租赁老爷爷”的委托内容，退休后的丈夫的样子很奇怪，朋友是不是孤独死去了，3个月后世界就结束了……等奇怪的案件。笨拙的兄弟，一边从孤独的委托人们各种各样的胡作非为奋斗一边世间生存。

34岁的早川基子（小林聡美饰）在一家信用金库工作，她和好友兼同事马场万里子（小泉今日子饰）是单位里同期进去的员工里唯二没有结婚的，没有爱情，在家里被母亲（白石加代子饰）当做孩童般管束；工作也是一日一日的简单重复，基子对这样的人生感到迷茫。
有一天，万里子突然带着3亿日元出逃，她打了通电话给基子告诉其要“精彩过日子。”基子怀着复杂的心情失声痛哭，之后，她开始重新审视自己的生活。
基子无意间走到一个名为“Happiness三茶”的地方，在那里竟然邂逅了20年前的玩伴龟山绊（ともさかりえ饰），最终基子搬来这里，和天真妹房东芝本ゆか（市川実日子饰）、贫穷而乐观的绊、人生经验丰富的教授（浅丘ルリ子饰）开始了一段美好的同居生活。
