"Touch My Body" is a song co-written by American singer Mariah Carey, Christopher "Tricky" Stewart, Crystal "Cri$tyle" Johnson and Terius "The-Dream" Nash for Carey's eleventh studio album, E=MC², and is the first single from the album. Rainbow is a collaboration-heavy album on which Carey worked with a wide range of producers and artists that dominated the music scene of the late 1990s; Rolling Stone called the album "a sterling chronicle of accessible hip-hop balladeering at the close of 1999." Carey herself said of the album "I made it in three months, like "Get me off this label!" I couldn't take it." Guest artists included rappers Jay-Z, Da Brat, Missy Elliott, Snoop Dogg, Mystikal and Master P, singers Usher and Joe, and boy band 98 Degrees. Carey stated in the MTV Special highlighting her Rainbow World Tour that because there were leftover videos, they were integrated into her show. The album was nominated in the category Pop Album of the Year at 2000 Japan Gold Disc Awards.
Rainbow debuted at number 2 on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart with 323,000 copies sold, the highest first-week sales of Carey's career at that time. In its debut week it was kept off the top spot by Rage Against the Machine's Battle of Los Angeles. The second week Rainbow stayed at number 2 selling another 228,000 copies, this time blocked by Faith Hill's Breathe. The album stayed in the top twenty for ten weeks and on the chart for thirty-five, making one re-entry. The album's weekly sales peaked at 369,000 copies in its eighth week (when it was at number 9). In total the album has sold 2,946,000 copies in the US and was eventually it was certified 3x Platinum by the RIAA. Although a commercial success, it was Carey's first studio album since Emotions (1991) not to reach number 1 in the U.S.
Rainbow produced two number 1 hits on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100: "Heartbreaker" and "Thank God I Found You". A cover version of the Phil Collins song "Against All Odds (Take a Look at Me Now)" featuring the Irish boy band Westlife was released in the UK and became Carey's second number 1 single there, but the double A-side "Can't Take That Away (Mariah's Theme)"/"Crybaby" became her first single to miss the U.S. top twenty.

MTV stated that although the song appears to be about her deceased father, Carey "extends this song about death to be for anybody 'who just lost somebody' they truly care about and those who lost someone they hate, you still end up either feeling gulity or missing them". Carey believed that by making "Bye Bye" more open, "everybody could kind of be healed by the song and have their own experience listening to it".
The song premiered on radio April 7, 2008 and has been played on various radio stations in the United States, according to Mediabase. The single became available to download at iTunes on April 14, 2008.
Carey first performed "Bye Bye" on T4 4Music and performed it again live on April 14, 2008, the single's digital release date, on The Oprah Winfrey Show and then again, two days later, on the result show of American Idol season 7 on April 16. Daydream is the fifth studio album by American singer-songwriter Mariah Carey. Released on October 3, 1995 by Columbia Records, the album leaned towards the hip hop and Contemporary R&B genres in comparison to her previous albums, Music Box (1993) and Merry Christmas (1994). Throughout the project, Carey collaborated with Walter Afanasieff, with whom she wrote and produced most of her two previous albums. With Daydream, Carey took more control over the musical direction as well as the album's composition. Carey said she considered Daydream the beginning of her musical and vocal transformation, a change that became more obvious in her 1997 release, Butterfly. During the album's production, Carey endured many creative differences with her label, Columbia Records and husband, Tommy Mottola.
On Daydream, Carey collaborated with Jermaine Dupri for the first time, and co-wrote and produced a song with Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds, with whom she had collaborated on Music Box. It was also the first time she had worked with Boyz II Men, an R&B group consisting of four male vocalists. Together, they wrote the concept and lyrics for "One Sweet Day", a song that Carey co-produced with Afanasieff. With his assistance and the addition of a few contemporary producers, she was able to make a subtle transition into the R&B market. Emotions is the second studio album by American singer-songwriter Mariah Carey. It was released on September 17, 1991 by Columbia Records. The album deviated from the formula of Carey's 1990 self-titled debut album, as she had more creative control over the material she produced and recorded. Additionally, Emotions features influences from a range of genres such as gospel, R&B, soul, pop and 1950s, 1960s and 1970s balladry infusion. On the record, Carey worked with a variety of producers and writers, including Walter Afanasieff, the only hold over from her previous effort. Additionally, Carey wrote and produced the album's material with Robert Clivillés and David Cole from C+C Music Factory and Carole King, with whom she wrote one song.
