Spain. The Basque Country. Sometime in the 90s. Josu Jon, a young member of a terrorist organization, has suffered an almost complete memory loss after being wounded in a shooting with the Spanish police. As he awaits for his trial, his condition is treated in the prison hospital. Other inmates belonging to the same organization try to make him remember how brave a gudari -a Basque soldier- he is and how he must join back the armed fight as soon as he gets out of prison. Meanwhile, Xabier, a college professor who has been death threatened for his political views on the Basque situation, is having an affair with one of his students, Francesca, who -as a young psychologist- happens to end up helping Josu Jon recover his memory. Awarm feeling of mutual affection grows between her and her patient. At a point, there doesn't seem to be clear whether Josu Jon really wants to recover his memory or whether he'd rather forget forever who he actually is.

This shocking film would have been impossible to make just two years before, in 1975. It tells the story of a group of right-wing terrorists, led by a strangely seductive older woman, whose destructive attacks on anyone it considers to have betrayed Spain to any form of leftism are cynically ignored by the police. The main story is about Tatin (Jose Luis Alonso), a 15-year-old young man, a hanger-on and newcomer to the group, who longs to participate in his first action against the hated "reds."
