十四岁的约翰从小就生长在修道院中，没有亲人，亦没有过去。一天，一位神秘的妇人安吉拉（玛利亚·若奥·巴斯托斯 Maria João Bastos 饰）找到了约翰，声称自己是他的亲生母亲，并且向约翰讲述了她曾经的故事。

要以短短的2个小时又40分钟的影片，呈现《追忆似水年华》这部原著钜作的所有，无疑是缘木求鱼，因此导演聪明地抓住原著中意识流之感，让观众一如进入梦境般，随著马塞尔的思绪跃动，反覆穿梭在马塞尔漫漫一生的各个经验翦影中，感受到回忆之玄妙，却也让人容易在其中迷了路。

片中不时出现超现实的场景转换，如马塞尔坐在椅子上，新闻电影银幕之前滑动；马塞尔在街道上走到一半突然滑跤，在身体前扑之际静止，然后背景不断转换，接著他滑到了下一个场景；或者进入一个雕像错落的异空间，观众恍如置身梦境，也充分表达了「追忆」这件事，其实与「做梦」极为相似。而片中不断出现的静止画面、雕像意像，更表达了止凝吉光片影，紧握回忆的企图。

在追忆之时，也不免对「回忆」提出辩证：「如果遗忘所带来的回忆，不再与当下有任何联系，就能让我们瞬时体验新的气象，其实，我们早已体验过这些了……每一次类比的浮想，总将我带离现在……」

片尾也以雕刻师萨维尼的故事表达了「永恒」的意念，只要曾发生过，便是永恒，它不会消失，只是不再回来，因此能鲜活地历历在心。

跟随着导演观众来到巴黎展开一场充满悬念的旅程。一个拥有四个不同名字与身份的男子引出四段风格迥异的故事：有关爱情、欲望、犯罪和时间。

Two narrators, one seen and one unseen, discuss possible connections between a series of paintings. The on-screen narrator walks through three-dimensional reproductions of each painting, featuring real people, sometimes moving, in an effort to explain the series' significance.

这许多魔幻经历，满有波赫士小说的魔幻神采，而以别创一格的视觉及美术效果呈现，反映出拉乌尔 鲁兹(Raoul Ruiz)对超现实、表现主义影像的驾驭，可谓惊世骇俗。

This mystical short film has a narrator telling us about a "strange philanthropical secret society" that has been in existence for seven years at a certain building. Its members, Philokinetes, devote their energy and money to studying and promoting a fragment of film they call 'The Film to Come'. The fragment runs for twenty-three seconds and is in a loop. Thus projected, it can last for hours, days, even years. Apparently, after viewing this fragment one can become somewhat enlightened, and in a deep hypnotic state, brought about by over-repetition of the revealing fragment. As the narrator says: "Once you reach this state, you can see, so they say." The next section of the film is a watershed: for the narrator is now a different voice and telling us that the fragment has been stolen and the Philokinetes were now in a deep identity crisis. There is a large book of apocryphal wisdom shown called 'Double Book of the Dancing Mysteries' that the sect read. Knowledge derived from this book of "mumbo-jumbo and untruths" leads the Philokinetes to believe that cinema had a life independent to humans. Cinema, they said, is "the primeval soup of a new life form. Therefrom were to emerge pure screening creatures, or non topical beings. Vast sets of loops, from which everyone would own a short endless return to self." Later the Philokinetes claim that the lost fragment was found by the narrator's daughter, an event which sparks off feasts and banquets which lasted for weeks. The narrator's voice changes again as he dies whilst overlooking two priests undergoing a solemn leafing through the Double Book, after they have took a vow of illiteracy. The narrator's soul has now run away to a cinema, but more importantly, it had become a part of the fragment entitled The Film to Come.
Shot mainly in black and white, Ruiz's familiar shooting style and camera angles are evident in his esoteric and interesting nine minute film.

A follow up to Jean Vigo’s short 1930 documentary A propos de Nice, A propos de Nice, la suite (1995), is really a collection of seven short documentary films combined into one feature.

被誉为拉乌尔·鲁兹影像构图的典范作，此片以令人叹为观止的视觉效果去营造超现实 处境、诗性的浪漫，中途却以震撼观众观影经验的众多摄影技术及加工技巧，大胆作出对电影媒介的各项实验，令观众每一分钟都不知道往后如何发展。当中如不断 转换滤光镜、倒转摄影、视觉小把戏等，都遥遥跟尚卢·高达的颠覆手法呼应。只是拉乌尔·鲁兹这些影像实验，却有他的现实性，在于从两个看似互不关连的故事 中－连环杀手与自闭主角的离奇经历，理出一点共通的超现实况味。

Set in 1973 during the coup d'etat in Chile, Max recalls his encounters in London during Worl War II with French aviator Antoine, a childhood hero he first met in his native country one morning in 1932 and who initiated him to the wonders of aviation.

It takes as its starting point two plays by the Spanish Golden Age dramatist
Calderón de la Barca, which Ruiz had directed on the stage; both of which were
called Life is a Dream and tell the same story but in different ways. The original
plays concern the son of the King of Poland, who has been imprisoned by his
father because it is predicted that he will depose him. One day the king orders
the sleeping son to be brought to the palace and given to believe that he is king
for a day, causing his son to be confused about what is real and what is a dream.
In Ruiz’s film, a literature teacher has learned by heart the names of 15,000
militants opposed to the military junta in Chile by memorising Calderón’s play and
using it as a mnemonic device. When he is captured, he has to forget everything
so as not to betray his comrades, but ten years later he tries to recapture his
memory by visiting a cinema showing a film based on Life is a Dream. Ruiz uses
this setting to explore a complex set of relations dealing with memory and the
layering of reality. The film is also about the experience of cinema, as the virtuality
of the film is confounded with the materiality of the cinema auditorium,
which becomes a place in which the story is enacted. For instance, characters on
a train, whom we at first take to be part of the film the teacher is watching, are
revealed to be on a model train set that runs around the cinema, in which other
strange things occur: birds fly around the auditorium and a Western shoot-out
takes place across the seats.
