I saw this film twice on my first trip to Italy (my first European trip, so it already was magical) and loved it, which was high praise, since I'd only been studying Italian for a few months, on my own. As I remember, it's the story of a man in an old actors home who wins a lottery, and runs away with a pretty worker from the home. He is taken advantage of, I remember, but exactly how...? I have looked for this film on video, and I think United Artists may offer it, but perhaps only in Europe. I would love to see it again...Ugo Tognazzi was a wonderful actor, and expressed many things simultaneously, as he did in La Cage Aux Folles. Lucky you if you can see the movie. I was in love with my Primo [Italian] Amore at the time, so perhaps memory has sweetened recollection. But I think it was lots of fun to watch.
I found this film one of the saddest ones which I've ever seen. Dino Risi is a brilliant director and made a great film which shows the aging. Ugo Tognazzi plays the actor who feels too young to be in an "old actor's house". He just can't stand the rules and the other old people so he escape with a young girl. The sad part comes from here because the girl wants her freedom, doesn't love the man and cheats him with other guys. In fact she never told the man that she loved him.

In many ways, 'I Nuovi Mostri' is an extension of Dino Risi's film „I Mostri”. However, its episodes were shot in color whereas the original "Monsters" film was shot in black and white. Most episodes of this film are about human nature especially shortcomings of people which reveal a negative facet of their lives. There are also episodes where the spotlight is on revealing the hypocrisy present in modern society due to strange rules and regulations. For example: an episode features an injured man who cannot be admitted to any hospital as there is no more room in a general hospital, no medical service after 23:00 in an hospital run by nuns and only military personnel with proper identification papers can be given treatment in a military hospital. Italian film 'Viva Italia'! is also known as "I Nuovi Mostri". It is the tale of new Italian monsters who represent weaknesses present in an average Italian. These people have been called "monsters" as their personal interests are always on top of their minds. These are the people who do not hesitate a bit in order to ensure their happiness at the cost of their beloved ones. An excellent film for all those cinema admirers who wish to learn more about Italian way of living.

Discovering her boyfriend is married, a young lady attempts to take her life, pausing only to phone a Help Line. Finding herself very much alive in hospital she meets the priest who took the call and, much taken with him, she starts trying to date him. He in turn succumbs to her charms and they soon realise their major problem is his Holy vow of celibacy.
