皮埃尔·阿尔迪迪是法国的一位老演员，出演过《基督山伯爵》、《周末》等许多知名电影，1987年、1994年先后因为出演《情景剧》、《吸烟/禁止吸烟》被法国国内最高电影大奖恺撒奖评为最佳男主角和最佳男配角。《两个人的法拉利》是他在2002年出演的一部喜剧，在剧中塑造了一个为生活所迫的小人物。

上世纪40年代，法国一对年轻的夫妇结合了，电影记录了他们数十年的婚姻生活。美容师玛卓琳是一个漂亮单纯的女孩，遇到丹尼尔后，两人陷入热恋，并很快举行了婚礼，一切看起来都很幸福美好，两人最初也确实过着如童话般的甜蜜生活。可是渐渐的，玛卓琳在物质上的要求越来越多，她喜欢高档家具、名牌服装，名贵跑车，高级化妆品，对这些东西的广告和宣传册无法抗拒，而且变得越来越不可收拾。
这和丹尼尔想象中的传统而平静的生活完全不同，因此两个人争吵不断。丹尼尔的家族世代经营玫瑰花的生意，本来可以生活得舒适富足，可是为了给妻子无止境的欲望埋单，丹尼尔夫妇背上了沉重的负债，这也将两人最初的浪漫生活破坏殆尽。导演通过一对普通夫妻的真实生活，赤裸裸地探讨了二战后法国中产阶级家庭中蔓延的物质欲望，对现实生活也起到了一定的警醒作用。
