Adapted by writer/director Fernando Sariñana from the stories by Juan Madrid, Ciudades Oscuras (Dark Cities) tells a story of interwoven lives in the seedy underbelly of Mexico City. The several different story lines concern hooker Lola (Dolores Heredia); her drug addict son Fede (Diego Luna); her friend Zeze (Zaide Silvia Gutierrez); Zeze's daughter Susana (Jimena Ayala); and junkie Vicente (Roberto Sosa). Luz is in jail, accused of murdering her own children. Her husband and her mother-in-law say she killed them in cold blood. Dr. Rebollar tries to help the woman, but she refuses to remember anything. Luz thinks of jail as the purgatory: it's only one step to reach the Heaven.

Jacqueline (Bonilla) and Nicolas (Echanove) are so in love that they decide to get married "until death takes them apart". When love dies and infidelity takes its place, Jacqueline decides there's no time to fulfill the promise of their votes. She begins to plot her husband's murder, but destiny is committed to surprise her in many ways.

The Mexican painter Francisco Goitia, feeling his death approaching, manages to make a memory of his life: the reunion with his country and his people, his permanent search for identity as a man and as an artist and his struggle against the demons of the body and his subsequent religious conversion.

2009 film

A naïve rookie in the Mexican highway patrol must adapt in order to survive as he contends with widespread corruption, dangerous drug runners and the consequences of his often morally gray actions.

The film tells the story of the Boteros, a middle-class Mexican family struggling against poverty after their father's death. Ignacia (Egurrola) is the Boteros mother, a desperate woman who chooses to sacrifice the destiny of her three older children, in order to protect Gabriel (Laguardia) the youngest one. She believes Gabriel will climb the social structure and bring back the lost fortune to the family. But destiny has other plans for the Boteros and tragedy will overcome eventually. Based on the novel of Nobel Prize winner Naguib Mahfouz.

This is a prophetic drama about a young couple, Miguel (Rafael Sanchez Navarro) and Patricia (Alma Delfina), who desperately need money and are forced to commit robbery – until the fear they experience during their second hold-up forces them to flee. They run away together, but their relationship is put to the test when Patricia begins to see new possibilities in her life, while Miguel remains stuck in his old ways.

Perla, a prostitute and the star in a miserable cabaret in the docks, falls in love with a sailor without knowing that he is her brother. Tomasa, Perla's mother, tries to prevent this incestuous relationship at all costs, but fails to do so. Set in a sordid environment, the director makes no concessions in this tragic love affair, which is narrated from three different points of view.
