Signs of Vigorous Life: New German Cinema features interview footage with Werner Herzog, Wim Wenders, Volker Schlondorff, and Rainer Werner Fassbinder. The documentary takes you through the origins of German film during its post war failures to the birth of the New German Cinema and its founding members.

For over half a century, the filmmaker Edgar Reitz, one of the signatories of the Oberhausen Manifesto and a pioneer of epic film narration, has explored, as a practitioner and theoretician, the rules and limits of cinema, which he always seeks to break and extend in new ways. One example of his tireless search and research are the Geschichten vom Kübelkind, which he co-directed with Ula Stöckl in 1969/70, 22 absurdly funny, subversive and anarchistic short films of different lengths, which consciously oppose all conventions, with incredible success. The films remain unrivalled in their Dadaistic inventiveness.
The documentary Der Film verlässt das Kino: Vom Kübelkind-Experiment und anderen Utopien centres on how the Geschichten vom Kübelkind, now rediscovered and restored, actually came about. Edgar Reitz, Ula Stöckl, Werner Herzog, Alexander Kluge and other filmmakers and contemporaries look back on the conditions that made this and other such visionary projects possible 50 years ago. They are all concerned with the question: What will the future of moving pictures look like?

《垃圾桶小孩的故事》由德国新电影主将之一爱德嘉·莱兹（《故乡》1984）及其学生乌拉·施特克尔（《猫有九条命》1968，被誉为西德第一部女性主义电影）于1969-1971年间拍摄制作的实验电影。影片采用分集短片形式，共25集，每集长短不一。讲述一个从医院垃圾桶的子宫污汙中诞生的红衣小孩，进入社会后的故事。影片由莱兹本人的制片公司制作，完成后起初并未按正常渠道发行，而是制作了一份25集的“菜单”，于慕尼黑的一家酒吧“点单”放映（除周一外每日放映，入场3.5马克）。在第17集中，赫尔佐格饰演了一个角色，是他作为演员的荧幕首秀。

After the death of his mother, farmer Windleter feels very lonely on his small mountain farm in Switzerland. Chances to find a wife in the small village are nil - a life with him would mean hard work seven days a week. So he finally "orders" a young woman from Thailand, who grew up on a farm herself, and marries her right away, although she doesn't speak a word of German. Slowly they start to grow together - but his village neighbors won't accept her and treat her like a dirty whore.

This film essay by Steff Gruber is a report on the exceedingly difficult work of making Werner Herzog's film COBRA VERDE in Ghana. The very personal film however is more than just a blow by blow account of the film's creation. It also focuses on the complicated relationship between the two stars Werner Herzog and Klaus Kinski, the walk-on players (Herzog had a thousand young Ghanaian women trained as Amazon warriors) and the clash of black and white. As Klaus Kinski died soon after the completion of filming work, LOCATION AFRICA was the last documentary film in which he appeared.
