The 50 Greatest Documentaries was a Channel 4 television programme which was broadcast on 9 October 2005 and was narrated by British actress, Zoë Wanamaker. The number one position was held by the on-going Up Series.
The list was compiled based on the nominations submitted to Channel 4 by a series of factual filmmakers, amongst who included Paul Watson, Nick Broomfield and Molly Dineen.

This Easter, in a unique new documentary, ITV will celebrate the queen of crime Agatha Christie, and her most enduring literary creation, Hercule Poirot in Agatha & Poirot: Partners in Crime.
Marking 100 years since the first literary appearance of Christie’s illustrious super sleuth, Agatha & Poirot will chart the origins and history of Hercule Poirot and trace the inimitable Belgian detective’s lasting impact upon popular culture.
Presented by Richard E Grant, and featuring contributions from family and famous fans, Agatha & Poirot will explore the life and personal experiences of Christie, which inspired the plots, characters and locations of her literary masterpieces.
Examining the relationship between Christie and her longest life companion Hercule Poirot, the documentary will explore the story behind some of Christie’s most timeless publications, from Poirot’s first outing in The Mysterious Affair At Styles to later pursuits in Murder in the Orient Express and Death on the Nile.
Viewers will visit Christie’s Devon home of Greenway with great grandson James Prichard; experience luxury train travel with Joanna Page; explore Poirot’s popularity across the big and small screens with Stephen Fry; and enjoy Christie’s love of luxury food with chef Marcus Wareing.
Agatha & Poirot features an all-star cast of Christie enthusiasts and experts, including actors Zoe Wanamaker, Hugh Fraser, Amanda Abbington, Lesley Joseph, Danny John Jules and Caroline Quentin. As well as screen writer Anthony Horowitz, Historian Bettany Hughes and Cultural Expert Gus Casely-Hayford.

His novel, filmed as 2001: A Space Odyssey, won Clarke and director Stanley Kubrick cult status. He is listened to by the United Nations, US Congress, Microsoft, and NASA. In a rare interview from his tropical paradise home in Sri Lanka, he talks about his life, from his upbringing in rural Somerset to the writing of his latest novel, 3001: The Final Odyssey.

Victoria Hazlett is a brilliant student who aspired to the priesthood in the Anglican Church. When she collapses and dies during an exam, the post-mortem reveals that she was likely poisoned, but the pathologist can't quite identify one of the substances found in her system. Victoria was a member of a group that advocated women priests and ran a shelter for women who required assistance in their life. Several members of the group feel that an anti-womens' group led by the Reverend Geoffrey Boyd is responsible, but there is little evidence. There is a link to a nearby weight loss clinic. Morse is quite attracted to one of the women in the group but is taken aback when he learns she lied to him about her whereabouts the night before Victoria died.

作为莎士比亚四大喜剧之一，《无事生非》写作于1598-1599年，是莎士比亚喜剧写作最成熟的时期。剧中数条线索巧妙穿插，最吸引人的是培尼狄克和贝特丽丝的恋情。他们起初誓抱独身，相互讽嘲，各不相让，最后彼此倾倒，完满结合。相比莎士比亚其它喜剧，《无事生非》场景及语言更接近真实生活，彷佛是一般人也会发生的故事。剧情热闹欢乐，富有哲思，人物性格鲜明，妙语连珠。剧中人物探寻的则是两性关系中的自我意识以及真诚与尊重。

查尔斯·狄更斯 (Charles Dickens) 令人难以忘怀的半自传故事，讲述了一个男孩在母亲去世后被继父送走，但他设法战胜了难以置信的逆境。

'Johnny and the Bomb' is the perfect example of the BBC actually using our licence fee money to produce excellent entertainment instead of squandering it on dreary soaps and repetitive music competitions.
This television teen drama, based on Terry Pratchett's novel, centres the whirl-wind adventure thirteen-year-old Johnny and his friends are drawn into when they help a seemingly homeless old woman Mrs Tachyon. They discover her trolley of bin bags contain not rubbish but a means of travelling back in time and they soon find themselves reliving the Blitz, circa 1941. However, by messing with the timeline, the children are forced to face the repercussions when they return to their own time and find out they changed history, resulting in Johnny's grandmother being killed as a teenage girl in a German bombing. The gang have to put things right otherwise they will have created a future where Johnny had never been born.
The characters are all solid and engaging (and unlike the recent 'Harry Potter' adaptations, there is no dumbing down or sexing up of the young characters just to appeal to kiddies), remaining true to how they are in the book, with the child actors throwing themselves into their characters. The kids all deliver great performances despite the fact they are all relatively new to the acting scene. And Zoe Wannamaker is excellent as the scatter-brained, eccentric Mrs Tachyon.
'Johnny and the Bomb' is a nice mix of science fiction, light fantasy, drama with a smidgen of romance. It doesn't just show the kids prancing about having a good time in the Forties but deals with how they cope with this unfamiliar time, touching on racial and sexual stereotypes the kids have never really come across before. As such, while it is aimed at teenagers primarily, adults who are fans of Pratchett novels or just like sci-fi/lite-fantasy will no doubt thoroughly enjoy this. As an adaptation, I think it is certainly a success. Obviously there are some changes from the novel but, for the most part, it has remained faithful and definitely maintains the essence of what made the book a great read.
I only hope the BBC make more dramas of this vein as it is definitely more entertaining than the usual drivel you tend to find it airing. Dramas, be it those aimed at kids or adults, are the BBC's strong point and it is a shame they don't produce more as 'Johnny and the Bomb' is probably one of the best British shows I've seen this year. It would be nice to have this available on DVD at some point soon.
