《迷失》的艺术商业上双丰收与它在编剧和运作上的创新密不可分。之前只有《24小时》尝试过独立制作除电视播出版本外的视频特辑，但用的不是原班人马；《迷失》又开了先例——首次以主创阵容制作了仅在移动和网络平台上播出的篇外篇《遗忘的碎片(Missing Pieces)》。
这部共13集的特辑于2007年底首次放出，给正在苦苦等待4季的剧迷们“望梅止渴”，内容为前3季情节的补充。
