什麼是噪音？什麼是音樂？你覺得悅耳無比，別人或許厭惡至極。
什麼是聲音？什麼是寂靜？當你進入一個理論上無聲的實驗室，你還是會很煞風景地聽到自己的血液與神經，依舊 噗通不停地，雜鬧響著。
影片的兩位主角分別是現代音樂家／理論家John Cage，以及雙眼失明的爵士吹管音樂家Roland Kirk。Dick Fontaine用實驗的影像風格搭配巧妙的交叉剪接，讓事實上沒有相遇，更未交談的兩位音樂家，在片中彼此辯證， 互相對話。我們在片中看見John Cage宛如神秘的哲學家，不斷地在溜滑梯、玩轉輪、騎單車的過程中，唸著自己關於「聲音」概念的思考札記。片子另端，則是狀似巫師的聲音實踐者Roland Kirk，時而嘴裡插著五、六把薩克斯風同步吹奏，時而把電子器材發出的無調性聲波當作創作背景，時而分發玩具樂器給眾人，希望用業餘者共同即興參與的方式，顛覆專精才是音樂的概念。
本片因此是個關於何謂「音樂」的本體論質問，簡短卻韻味深遠，前衛卻不失趣味。可和Jacques Attali的理論著作《噪音：音樂的政治經濟學》對照閱讀。
