马克·扬在好莱坞也是一个很有意思的导演。虽然名号并不响亮，拍片也不多，但很少有人像他这样“独立”。他的电影虽然都是有厂牌挂靠的，但所有他的4部电影都是由他一人担当导演、编剧和剪辑的职位。这样的实干精神在拍摄B级电影中的确十分必须，毕竟对于小成本的预算来书少个分钱的人也许就意味着可以多拍几分钟的胶片、多泼洒几桶血浆或是再细致的塑造一下恐怖的形象。
不过从故事上来说马克·扬似乎并不擅长推陈出新，老掉牙的俗套在他的片中还是处处可见。要想成名立万光靠独立可不行啊

"Choke" starts out promising. A Wealthy businessman (Hopper) discovers his daughter was the culprit in a hit and run accident. Rather than report it, they decide to stay quiet, because she was drinking at the time. Little does he know, someone overheard. Blackmailing into taking a job he didn't at first want to, Hopper then decides it's easier if he just knocks off the man - and before you can say "cover up" - a body is pushed out a second story window. Enter, Madsen, as a strange man, who drives up in a classic car, claiming to have seen Hopper's act. Instead of turning him into the authorities though - Madsen asks Hopper into his car and together they go cruising on the highways, stopping (constantly) to talk about their evil deeds.
It's this "stopping and starting", that causes "Choke" to crumble. At times, it's as if we are watching a home video of a couple of actors talking (most of the time about nothing in particular), forgetting that they are supposed to be entertaining the audience. For Madsen and Hopper fans only.

In this second installment of his exploration of creativity, Hermann Vaske looks for factors that inhibit it. He asks artists, activists, and thinkers, among them artist Marina Abramović, author T. C. Boyle, and climate activist Luisa Neubauer, about things that kill their creativity. He notes that assassins lurk everywhere, be they in the form of money, fear, censorship, or bureaucracy. Ironically, however, these things can also foster creativity. Today in particular, the Anthropocene period threatens our very survival. This existential threat keeps us exploring new ideas. Creativity may be under threat, but it is often this very threat that drives it. In dialectically synthesizing opposites, Vaske is surprised to find that some reasons for a lack of creativity are themselves particularly creative.
