导演其实在开篇的旁白里就已经说出了故事的结局，电影是一出悲剧。但却是以喜剧的形式讲述的。
三名孤儿，安德列、尤里克与玛尔塔。其实都是成年人，但他们的行为却如孩子般天真。三人住在一所战争中被炸毁的教堂里。有趣的是，这所教堂竟然还有个房东，他也是个孤儿。胖胖的，可爱的老头， 贪吃、爱玩，喜欢弹钢琴。安德列与尤里克本是好友，但自从犹太女孩玛尔塔到来之后，他们的关系变得异常微妙。尤里克无缘由地被抓进监狱。一年出狱后，发现已经是物是人非。他们的将来会何去何从呢？
片中的鸟儿，是指人死后灵魂的象征物；愚人，也可以说是“傻瓜”，是指那些在战争中失去理智的疯子或者被别人称为是有理性的那些人。
剧中经常出现不合常理、超现实的人物、场景。

This is a very bizarre fairy tale. It commences with a wedding and singing and dancing but nearly the whole village is wiped out by wolves. The bride gives birth to a daughter several months later and promises her to the boy who saved her.
Ten years later there is another disruption when Some circus folk come by and the villagers trick them into staying. Tragedy ensues...
This has a strange cast, dwarfs, giants, priests and occasional intrusions from the modern world in the form of the police and a wonderer who returns bringing to the village the good news of Nostradamus. It is a long film but it honestly does not drag. and if you get bored of the plot you can always look at the sumptuous Countryside.

一出错得离谱、悲惨的爱情喜剧。
5个女人和4个男子都非常不满意自己的生活，而试图抛弃原本的生活，想捉住青春爱情的尾巴。导演更是用擅长的现实主义、超现实主义、魔幻现实主义和喜剧的表现手法来体现他们愚蠢的、闹剧似的性爱生活。

马戏团演员帕比与士兵倍明朗哥自战场回归后发现他们的家己面目全非，二人于是结伴而行；他们在帕比所偷的脚踏车上发现珠宝，与犹太麦面包师的女儿艾丝特快乐地生活在一起，艾丝特产下一女后，却因帕比所偷的珠宝而被窃贼所杀，帕与倍也因私藏珠宝而下狱……

影片分三章代表三次战争：WWI、WWII和虚构的WWIII：
THE DESERTER (segment I) - A film against violence. A young soldier escapes from the horror of battlefield towards his country village, only to find violence there too, symbolised by the bloody killing of a pig.
SUNDAY (segment II) - Czechoslovakia during World War II. A farm is occupied by Russian partisans trying to sabotage Nazi troops in the neighbourhood. An itinerant egg seller is shot by the Russians as a spy. News arrive that the war is over. A German patrol enters the village and engages the Russians in a bloody battle. The film episode ends with a sequence showing the return of Soviet tanks to Czechoslovakia.
THE NOMADS (segment III) - Nuclear war is apparently raging on the earth. A handful of people including a young girl, all in rags or completely naked are in a fall-out shelter. The "White Hussar" (from segment 1) is there too and says he is Death. The girl wants to protect him from the others who want to get rid of him, and in exchange he leads her to the surface of the Earth which is denuded of any trace of life. The girl dies in a deserted windmill. The old man continues his search for people but soon he, too, dies.

Although the title would indicate this feature has a religious theme, it refers only to men between the ages of 30 and 33. Juraj (Jiri Sykora) is a recent graduate of the art institute who is uncertain about his future as a painter. His brother Andrej (Vlado Mueller) is the businessman who has the confidence his brother lacks but is troubled by his strained marriage to his wife. Juraj falls for his brother's wife, while Andrej falls for Juraj's girl Jana (Jana Hernova), but Andrej's death in a car crash puts an end to the two unconventional love affairs. The appeal of the film is the interaction of the two brothers that strikes a resounding note of familiarity to any audience. —— Dan Pavlides, All Movie Guide

In this ambitious project of laying bare the lives of a village family over a 30-year period before, during, and after World War I, director Juraj Jakubisko has perhaps lost the outline of the woods in the beauty of each tree. Part I focuses on the ups and downs and the sensual life of an older bricklayer and beekeeper, and Part II focuses on his sons and their involvement in a family flour mill, politics, and World War I.

本片根据中世纪匈牙利臭名昭著的“吸血女伯爵”伊丽莎白·巴瑟（Elizabeth Bathory）的故事改编，并荣获2009年捷克金狮奖最佳艺术指导奖。

故事发生在捷克，诺娜（迪娜·霍瓦索瓦 Deana Horváthová 饰）是一个平凡的女人，一次偶然中，诺娜解释了名为艾斯特（达格玛·维斯科莫娃 Dagmar Veskrnová 饰）的护士，艾斯特告诉诺娜，她曾经的恋人是一名党员，在革命失败之后，心灰意冷的他选择了自杀。
诺娜怀孕了，可是，当她把这一喜讯告诉男友时，男友却选择了逃避和退缩，此时是艾斯特向诺娜伸出了援手，收留了无处可去的她。两个女人想要生存下去第一件事情就是要想方设法的赚钱，她们想了很多损招，最后还是靠卖掉了艾斯特已故的恋人的画作而赚了一大笔钱。就这样，两朵末路狂花走上了不归路。

A musical version of The Sleeping Beauty full of modern musical scenes combined with dream sequences from fairytale visions. Little Darinka, whose mother died, is growing up at her grandma's in Prague. Her grandmother reads her favorite fairytale The Sleeping Beauty to her every night. Surrounded by her father 's love, and the love of her Uncle Leonard (an unknown musician and stoker in the theater) she has a beautiful childhood. Uncle Leonard finds a great musical talent in her and wants her to be a singer. Unfortunately she becomes very ill with hemophilia. The hopeless reality mixes with the visions from her favorite fairytale from childhood. The girl has to learn how to live with the illness, not to give up and also cultivate her talent...
J. Jakubisko: "The music is second only to the image as the most important part of film for me. The reason why I picked this topic was just a question of natural development. Magical realism is combined with the real world of the fairytale fiction. I made my mind up, wrote it and directed the story that makes this principle alive. With this musical fairytale I tried to touch the teenage generation - the age in which magical realism is part of life."
