10月28日，罗兰·艾默里奇（Roland Emmerich）探索古代秘史的电影《佚名》（Anonymous）就要上映了，而这之后他又将把目光放到未来，这就是《奇点》（Singularity），近日他接受采访时谈到了这一科幻片计划。
《奇点》是一部关于人和机器的科幻片，艾默里奇说：“这将是一部聪明的科幻片，类似《盗梦空间》那种创作方向，比它还要聪明一点。”
他还承认这部影片受到了美国未来学家、哲学家雷·库兹韦尔（Ray Kurzweil）的很多影响，后者曾出版过《智能机器的时代》（Age of Intelligent Machines）、《灵魂机器的时代》（Age of Spiritual Machines）等畅销书，并成功地预言了电脑将在1998年战胜棋王。《奇点》这个片名也是来自他的书《奇点迫近》（The Singularity is Near），但不是直接改编。
艾默里奇并没有真正见过雷·库兹韦尔，但他非常喜欢《灵魂机器的时代》这本书，他曾买下很多本，逢人便送。“到我家吃晚饭的人大部分出门时都拿着这本书”，他开玩笑说。
《奇点》目前还没有开始选角。影片将于2013年5月17日上映，明年三月在加拿大蒙特利尔开拍——那里也是《后天》（The Day After Tomorrow）的拍摄地。

“奇点”发生在人工智能比人类还要聪明还有有能力的时候，科技发展已经由机器接管，机器也可敏捷地思考、行动和沟通，甚至快到正常人无法理解。机器、或是那些已经机器化的人类——Cyborg掌握了全世界，机器进到加速自我反应的循环，每一代的人工智能都会越来越快，并且成指数加快，到了这个时候，科技爆炸性发展，因为人类文明已经被机器所掌握，所以之后的科技发展无法被精确预测。
奇点是一个极端跳跃性、改变全球的事件，并且永久改变人类的命运。书中预测奇点发生在2045年。
