影片基于阿根廷作家、记者门波·贾迪内利（Mempo Giardinelli；1947年~）发表于1983年的同名小说改编。比森特·阿兰达把原著小说20世纪70年代阿根廷军事政变时期的背景，设置在同时期西班牙佛朗哥政权在布尔戈斯（Burgos）对恐怖组织埃塔的若干成员大审判的环境下。
