二战期间，日军占领了缅甸边境的一个战俘营。出于战略需要，日军将在缅甸与泰国交界修建一条大桥，同时希望战俘营里战俘出力，但英军战俘代表尼科森上校认为这违反日内瓦公约拒不执行。于是尼科森等人被关了禁闭，但是没了尼科森的带领，战俘们表现消极，而且因日本设计方面的不足，建桥工作陷入了停滞。日军无奈只好放出了尼科森等人，获释后尼科森感到在破坏一切都战争里何不做点建设，于是开始投入到建桥的工作。与此同时，逃出去的美军俘虏希尔兹接受盟军一个特别任务，就是大桥建成之日将它炸毁。

Richard Hardy, a hardworking stockbroker, labors overtime to keep up with the ruinous bills incurred by his beautiful but irresponsible wife Edith, a venal, spoiled socialite who is impervious to his pleas for fiscal restraint. Acting on what she believes to be an insider information, she impulsively embezzles $10,000 from the Red Cross charity she chairs for a stock tip. When she finds the money has been lost, she desperately turns to a Japanese ivory trader with whom she has been thoughtlessly flirting and persuades him to replace the money in exchange for an assignation. When her husband's long-awaited business deal finally materializes, she desperately tries to withdraw from their agreement by replacing the money. Angered and disappointed with her resistance to his advances, he uses a branding device to mark her shoulder as his property. Feeling violated, Edith shoots him in the shoulder and leaves. 辉雄（小衫勇 饰）因为家境过于贫寒，而被父亲过继给了贵族武士大和严（早川雪洲 饰）做养子，大和严膝下有一女光子（原节子 饰），两人顺水推舟的结下了娃娃亲。之后，辉雄被大和严送往了德国留学，第一次接触到异国文化的他很快就被这片自由奔放的土地所吸引，与此同时，辉雄还结识了名为盖尔达（露丝·埃韦勒 Ruth Eweler 饰）的德国记者，美艳的盖尔达一下子就吸引了辉雄的注意，令他将还在家中苦苦等他回来完婚的光子抛之脑后。

Un soir elle perd beaucoup au jeu et emprunte de l'argent au prince Lee-Lang qui lui fait aussitôt des avances qu'elle repousse. Le prince se venge en sabotant le travail de Pierre et au cours d'une entrevue dramatique, Denise le tue. Elle est acquittée.
