第二次世界大战.1945年3月21日，英国皇家空军开始执行轰炸哥本哈根盖世太保总部的任务。这次袭击造成了致命的后果，因为一些轰炸机意外袭击了一所学校，造成120多人丧生，其中86人是儿童。几名哥本哈根居民的命运因此交织在了一起。本片改编自真实事件。

在现存的19世纪浪漫主义古典舞剧的珍品中，如果说《吉赛尔》是悲剧芭蕾代表的话，那么，《葛蓓莉娅》则可认为是喜剧芭蕾的典型。
该剧是由法国的圣·莱翁编导，利奥·德里布作曲，首演于1870年5月25日。那时群星灿烂的巴黎歌剧院因后继无人而日见衰落，面临人才奇缺的困境，编导者圣·莱翁和作曲家利奥·德里布（Delibes, Leo,1836-1891）亲自物色启用形象俊秀的厄热妮娅和年仅16岁的博扎姬，这两位女演员分别反串扮演剧中的男女主角。经过耗时3年的准备，《葛》剧终以其独特的创造，赢得了公众的肯定，它犹如一股清醇的甘露流经人们久旱的心田。以皇帝为首的上层权贵也破例为主演者的出色表演喝彩叫好。《葛》剧至8月31日因巴黎遭围被迫停演为止，前后18场无不爆满。它"给人以欢乐，暂时忘却现实中的烦恼。"
《葛蓓莉娅》的剧情根据德国幻想派作家霍夫曼的小说《睡魔》改编。剧本和编舞结构巧妙，设想新颖，整个表演诙谐风趣，令人愉悦。剧情共三幕，故事地点放在了波兰和匈牙利。第一、二幕基本上依靠哑剧展开，第三幕则以罗列舞蹈场面为主。作曲家利奥·德里布在此更明确地采用了主题旋律作曲法。分别为剧中人物规定了音乐主调，整个乐曲，典雅流畅、精巧细致，与包括每一个舞姿表情在内的各种场面达到了绝妙的配合。另外，匈牙利恰尔达什舞在芭蕾中首次出现，玛祖卡等民间舞曲的运用，又进一步丰富了舞剧的色彩。《葛》剧的音乐真正突破了以往舞剧音乐仅作为一架伴舞节拍机的功能，因而利奥·德里布被称为当之无愧的"古典芭蕾音乐之父"。

　　可爱的高卢族少女Swandila和风流少年Franz是一对情侣，但Franz被Coppelius博士家阳台上的一个美丽少女所吸引。正当大家都以为Swandila和Franz会在众人的祝福下订婚的时候，Franz竟仍在向那露台上的少女求爱，这令Swandila非常生气。这时Coppelius博士经过并不小心跌下了他家的钥匙。Swandila和她的朋友拾到了钥匙，并决定要到Coppelius博士家去探险和找出那个露台上的少女的身份。Coppelius博士回到家门前发现家门大开，他立刻进去搜寻那些入侵者。幕终时Franz拿来一把梯子，准备爬上露台去看那少女。
　　第二幕：（Coppelius的工作室）
　　Swandila和她的朋友发现原来Coppelius博士制做了很多人身大少的木偶，她们将那些木偶全上了炼令它们活动起来，并发现那个叫Coppelia的少女也是一个木偶。这时Coppelius博士进来赶走这群入侵者。Swandila则躲了在Coppelia身后的一个小洞中避过了Coppelius的追赶。这时从窗口爬进来的Franz被Coppelius捉住了。Coppelius非常讶异于Franz对Coppelia的倾慕，并打算做一个大胆的实验：将生人的灵魂转注到Coppelia身上。他用掺了药的酒把Franz弄晕，再将Coppelia推出来。这时Swandila早已将自己扮成Coppelia坐在轮椅上让Coppelius推出来，她知道了Coppelius的计划并准备作弄他。蒙在鼓里的Coppelius向Coppelia施咒，并以为咒语实现了，Coppelia活动起来、和别的木偶玩耍、还弄醒了昏迷的Franz。他们一起愚弄那惊愕万分的Coppelius，并逃离他的工作室。
　　第三幕：
　　小镇上挂起了一口新的吊钟象徵著Swandila和Franz的订婚，整个舞剧在热斗的庆祝活动中完结。

一名爱情专家受大公夫人所托，向她羞怯的儿子传授引诱之术，却不料身陷丑闻，还迎来了一段恋情。

Act I (The Market). Teresina's mother Veronica, who does not want her to marry poor Gennaro, introduces her to two other suiters. These are two older, but, rich men named Peppo and Giacamo. Teresina, much to her mother's distress, refuses them both and instead goes off to wait for Gennaro. When Gennaro arrives back at port, he and Teresina go to find Veronica and try to convince her that they should wed. Luckily for them, this task proves relatively easy once she sees how true the young couple's love is. Full of happiness Teresina and Gennaro sail off together.

Meanwhile a group of entertainers come and put on a show for the townsfolk. However, a violent storm begins and the festivities come to an abrupt end. When the storm ends, Gennaro is found, but Teresina is not. Thinking she has drowned, Veronica openly mourns for her daughter and blames Gennaro for her death. So stricken by this turn of events Gennaro becomes so agitated that he almost commits suicide, but stops when he sees a statue of the Madonna. Soon Fra Ambrosio, the local monk, appears and gives him a picture of the Madonna telling him to go and find Teresina.

Act II (The Blue Grotto). Gennaro looks everywhere for Teresina and eventually finding her in The Blue Grotto, a magical place ruled by Golfo who has turned Teresina into a Naiad (Fairy of the Sea). Because of the Transformation, Teresina no longer remembers Gennaro. However, through faith, Teresina is changed back into a human and has her memory restored. Quickly, Gennaro and Teresina leave the Grotto to return to Naples.

Act III (The Wedding). When Teresina and Gennaro return the townsfolk are suspicious because they had thought Teresina was dead. Peppo and Giacamo even try to convince everyone that Gennaro is in league with the devil. This rumor is soon disproved and the wedding celebration begins.

Deployed on mission in Helmand, Afghanistan, 25-year old Thomas steps on a landmine and loses both his legs. At the local rehabilitation center, he meets Sofie, an ascending ballerina from the Royal Danish Ballet, who is helping a relative to regain strength after a long term sickness. Thomas desperately wants back in the field and gets impatient as progress does not emerge as fast as he wants to. When Sofie offers to help him with a more intense rehabilitation plan, he accepts. Despite their differences, they develop a special bond and a mutual affection.
