這張專輯是妮娜西蒙在1967年為RCA唱片所灌錄的，這是她在RCA發行的第一張專輯，當中她唱了蓋希文的歌劇《波吉與貝絲》中的「我的男人不在了」、以及她自己創作宣揚公民權和黑人平權的招牌歌曲〈Backlash Blues〉、還有以西蒙的偶像貝西史密斯招牌歌曲改寫成的〈I Want a Little Sugar in My Bowl〉、另外，原本西蒙在1962年錄過，但一直沒紅，被Animals合唱團翻唱才大紅，後來又被瓊拜雅翻唱，成為嬉皮運動招牌歌曲的〈The House of the Rising Sun〉也重新在這裡改以快節奏翻唱。這首歌原本就是民謠，鮑布狄倫在1961年也錄過。為了和她之前在別廠牌所錄的專輯風格有所區隔，西蒙這張專輯不再一人身兼鋼琴、歌手、作曲等職，而是找來專人與她合作，當中她除了演唱外，只負責鋼琴。
