Dr. Hohner, theatre physician at the Vienna Royal Theatre, murders his mistress, the star soprano when his jealousy drives him to the point of mad obsession. Ten years later, another young singer reminds Hohner of the late diva and his old mania kicks in. Hohner wants to prevent her from singing for anyone but him, even if it means silencing her forever.

Upon discovering his fiancée Tollea has been kidnaped, Ramu and his friend Kado set out for a Pacific isle where all strangers are to be killed on arrival and the inhabitants, who are frequently sacrificed to an angry volcano god, worship the cobra. The island is ruled over by Tollea's evil twin Naja, the Cobra Woman, who, besides having designs on her new prisoner Ramu, also desires to eliminate any competition from her benevolent sister.

故事发生在金碧辉煌宾客满堂的巴黎歌剧院之中。小提琴家柯丹（克劳德·雷恩斯 Claude Rains 饰）爱上了美丽的女演员克丽丝（苏珊娜·福斯特 Susanna Foster 饰），柯丹知道自己和克丽丝之间的地位相差甚远，于是决定在事业上助她一臂之力。柯丹找来了德高望重的名师辅导克丽丝的演技，在老师的帮助下，克丽丝果然步步高升，很快就成为了剧团里的当家花旦，然而相对的，柯丹在一场意外中受伤，渐渐远离了舞台，两人渐行渐远。
