a review of 水中女妖
Actually one of the most important movies ever made. A deconstructive fairytale that exists precisely within the contemporary socio-political landscape and deals with precisely questions regarding our interaction with culture and stories. It deliberately takes apart both classical and modern tropes and concepts, as well as the very modes of storytelling, thus transcending genres, centuries of various storytelling traditions and media by tapping into the potential of film as a combinative art form. This is seriously a work too genius for us common plebs. Even being a fan of Shyamalan, it took me years to truly understand and appreciate what he was going for with this. A true masterpiece.
